Help & FAQ
Answers about courses, learner links, saved progress, and integrations.
Getting started
What is SCORMBox?
SCORMBox is a free online SCORM player for testing courses, sharing training, and tracking results. Upload a package, preview it, then send your team a learner link.
Do I need an LMS or an account?
You don’t need an LMS or a password to upload and share a course. Confirm your email to keep courses in My courses, upload larger packages, or manage SDK projects and LTI tools.
How do I test a course before sharing it?
Open the course’s management page and choose Play preview. You can check playback and navigation without creating a learner submission.
Courses & uploads
Which course formats can I use?
Can I track a regular HTML5 course?
Yes. Upload a ZIP with index.html and its assets. Inside the course, call ScormBox.setStatus('passed') and ScormBox.setScore(85). No initialization is needed. Progress, custom course data and visible viewing time are saved with the learner’s attempt.
See the simple HTML5 API or download a sample ZIP. HTML5 courses can also use connected SCORM or AICC downloads for another LMS.
Can I share a video or PDF and track viewing?
Yes. Upload an MP4, WebM or PDF using Upload file. It gets its own learner link, preview, saved progress and report. Video completion requires at least 95% unique playback and reaching the end. Seeking to the end alone does not complete it. Use a browser-supported video codec; we do not convert video files.
PDFs require every page to be viewed. In management, you can optionally set minimum total viewing time and minimum time per page, in seconds. Both rules must be met when enabled; the page minimum applies to every page. Reports include time per page and a CSV download. Blank or zero turns a time rule off. Completed attempts stay complete when rules change.
Time counts visible playback or rendered pages in a visible tab. Pauses, loading and hidden tabs do not add viewing time. Two visible PDF pages share the elapsed time rather than counting it twice. Viewing time does not prove attention or understanding.
Can I download a course as SCORM for another LMS?
Choose Download as SCORM on the private management page. Videos and PDFs can include their file, viewer and current completion rules in a standalone package. That download works independently of SCORMBox. Existing SCORM packages can be downloaded unchanged.
Any course can also use a connected download. This small SCORM wrapper plays the course from SCORMBox and sends results back to the destination LMS, using its learner identity. The course and any external provider must stay available. You can revoke a connected export without deleting its results. Downloaded standalone and original files cannot be revoked.
Generated packages support SCORM 1.2 and 2004. Detailed PDF resume data may exceed SCORM 1.2’s saved-state limit; choose SCORM 2004 for larger documents. External login and framing restrictions still apply. Late AICC/LTI results can be read on reopening, but a closed course cannot send updates into another LMS.
What should be inside a SCORM package?
Upload the original ZIP exported by your authoring tool. It should include imsmanifest.xml at the root or inside one enclosing folder. HTML-based SCORM 1.2 and 2004 courses are supported; Flash courses aren’t.
Can I use H5P activities?
Yes. Upload a .h5p file or H5P ZIP containing the activity and its libraries. Create or edit the activity in your H5P authoring tool, then upload it here. Saved progress and results depend on what the activity supports.
How do xAPI and cmi5 courses work?
Upload a ZIP with tincan.xml or cmi5.xml. For ADL xAPI Launch, include a TinCan descriptor and select that launch mode in management. Plain index.html ZIPs use the simple HTML5 API. For TinCan/xAPI, you can choose the entry page and launch settings on the management page.
SCORMBox saves the statements and state the course sends. cmi5 also provides lesson navigation and per-lesson results. See the SDK reference for integration details.
Can I add an AICC course by URL?
Yes. Choose AICC URL tab on the home page, then enter a title and the provider’s HTTPS launch URL. The course is ready immediately and stays on the provider’s server. The provider must support AICC reporting; an ordinary webpage won’t report results.
You can also upload an AICC ZIP with its matching .crs, .au, .des, and .cst files.
When is AICC a good choice?
AICC works well for basic tracking: completion, score, time, and a bookmark. A provider that supports server-to-server HACP can send results directly to SCORMBox, even when the learner is on the provider’s website rather than an LMS page.
The provider uses the reporting URL and session ID supplied by SCORMBox, and the session must still be active. This doesn’t mean every AICC course works offline.
Can I connect an LTI tool?
Yes. Choose LTI tool on the home page, sign in with your owner email, and select a project and connected tool. Use LTI tool settings to connect a new provider. SCORMBox supports LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3 as a Tool Consumer / Platform.
Add an activity using its launch URL, or choose activities in a provider that supports LTI 1.3 Deep Linking. You can preview the course, enable a learner link, or play it through the SDK. Results depend on what the tool reports.
How big can my course package be?
Upload up to 100 MB without confirming an email, or up to 500 MB after confirming your email in My courses. SDK and server API package imports also support up to 500 MB.
Confirmed uploads allow up to 2 GB of extracted files and 500 MB per file. Anonymous uploads allow 500 MB extracted and 200 MB per file. Both allow up to 5,000 ZIP entries.
Why does preparing a package take time?
After uploading, SCORMBox unpacks the package and prepares its files for playback. Large packages and packages with many files can take longer. Preparation runs in the background, so you can return to the management page to check its progress.
AICC URL courses and LTI activities don’t need to be downloaded or unpacked.
Sharing & access
Which link should I share?
Send the learner link. Learners enter their name and email to start or resume the course.
Keep the separate management link private. Anyone with it can view submissions, edit the title, and delete the course. For an SDK or LTI course, enable its learner link first if you want to share it outside your integration.
Can learners confirm their email?
Yes. Enable Require email confirmation on a course’s management page. Learners enter a code or confirm a link sent to their email before playing. Codes and links work once and expire after 10 minutes.
Their device remembers them for this course for up to 30 days. Refresh resumes their saved progress. They can see their email and sign out; signing out keeps their results.
Entering or confirming a learner email never opens other courses, My courses, management pages or reports. Learner sign-in and course owner sign-in are separate. A confirmed email shows inbox access for this course, not who completed earlier work.
Can a link include the learner’s name and email?
Yes. Use the personalized link tool on the management page, or add both name and email to the learner URL. It opens the course automatically unless email confirmation is required. When required, the learner confirms a code or email link first.
/learn/<course-id>?name=John%20Doe&email=john%40example.com
A personalized link doesn’t confirm inbox access. Enable Require email confirmation on the management page to check the learner’s email.
How do I find my courses again?
Use Email me my management link on the management page and confirm the email to add that course to My courses. New uploads join your library while you’re signed in.
To return on another device, request a fresh email sign-in link. Each link works once and expires after 15 minutes; your device stays signed in for up to 30 days. A learner’s email doesn’t give them management access.
Where is my course stored?
Uploaded packages and their extracted files are stored online by SCORMBox. AICC URL courses and LTI activities stay with their provider. Your SCORMBox course and learner results remain until you delete the course from its management page.
Progress & results
Can learners resume where they left off?
Yes, when the content saves a bookmark or progress. Learners should return through the same learner link using the same email. The course decides how that saved progress is restored.
For LTI, the external tool manages its own bookmarks and saved work.
What results can I see?
Choose View report in My courses or on a course’s management page for results per learner, completion and pass rates, scores, time and attempt history. Search, filter and download CSV. Some formats also provide lesson-level results.
The available results depend on the content. LTI 1.1 reports scores rather than completion; LTI 1.3 tools can report completion and scores. For LTI, pass/fail needs a configured passing score and a final numeric grade.
What should learners do before closing a course?
Use the course’s own Finish or Exit button, then the player’s Save & close or Close course button.
Closing an LTI activity doesn’t mark it complete or force a final grade. The provider can send a result later.
Can an integration start a fresh attempt?
Yes. The SDK and HTTP API can resume an attempt, create a new attempt, or reset a specific attempt while keeping its previous results in history. See attempts and sessions in the SDK reference.
A local reset separates SCORMBox results. It doesn’t reset work stored by an external LTI provider.
SDK & HTTP API
Can I put the player on my own website or LMS?
Yes. Include the JavaScript SDK and play a course in an iframe, overlay, popup, or new window. It returns saved state, normalized results, and course events to your page.
Try the live integration example, including its generated code, or create a project and registration key for your website.
Can I upload and configure content through HTTP?
Yes. The HTTP API supports file uploads, importing a package URL, AICC URLs, LTI connections and courses, learner sessions, and result queries. Authenticate server requests with your project’s API key and secret.
The browser SDK plays the returned course_id. It can also accept a package fetch_url directly. Keep API secrets on your server; use a public registration key or a signed launch token in browser code.
Are there examples for my programming language?
Download server-side examples for JavaScript, Ruby, Python, PHP, C#, and Java. The JavaScript SDK reference covers playback, events, saved results, and attempt options.
